Small Green Fox - Conceptual Eyes Exhibition 2011

Hey Foxes,
This is an event from last year, but since a lot of exciting stuff happened then, and this blog is only fresh and new I’m gonna have to use old material. Hope you don’t mind!
Anyway, this from my diploma class’ exhibition in November last year. The night was a whole lot of fun, but for something that takes so long to plan, it ends before you know it.
I had a great class and teachers, we had really fun times. Our official graduation ceremony is in two weeks, so that will be exciting- gowns, caps and all!
As a group the theme was ConceptualEyes, we had to come up with the branding, venue and all that other planning. Then we each had various areas to display our personal works. We had to create an identity and brand for ourself. Small Green Fox is my brand. I chose it because it’s unique and kind of quirky. It means a few different things- it’s kind of like my alter ego. It can be seen as what personality I want myself and my business to represent- small representing humble, green representing being down-to-earth and the lime colour in particular is an odd colour that you can’t help but be fond of. The fox character represents sly and cunning (without the evil stereotype of foxes) solutions to graphic design. The character having Edwardian-esque or just traditional accessories (top hat, monocle, bow tie) a friendly fox that you can trust and that is very easy to get along with. And he’s also kind of like my little graphic design companion- helping me out with design problems and encouraging me. So in a relatively short paragraph, that explains the meaning behind my brand.
By the way, my mum made me my very own real life Small Green Fox- you’ll see him down there. Felting is a really interesting craft- it baffles me, you’ll have to google it. Everyone loved him and I don’t blame them!
Hope you enjoy the photos.

Later Foxes!

Dirty Arial

Last semester we had a really awesome class- projects had to get done quick, they didn't drag out, and they were actually based on things people like me might be interested in doing! Unfortunately, we couldn't have that teacher this semester again, so sad!

Anyway, basically we all had to alter Arial. It was really fun and was interesting to see 12 different people doing the exact same project, and how varying the results were.

Design Debauchery: Annual Report

This is an assignment from earlier I did this year for my graphic design course, the brief was to create an annual report for a traveling art class company around Australia called Flying Arts.

By featuring robins endemic to the Queensland region,  where the company is based, I think it involves the community as something personal. With a grungy, paint-like aesthetic and combining art utensils in the birds' environment it involves the creativeness of what the company aims to be about and also is quite different to most things you would find, especially in an annual report. Which is something you want for an annual report, not to be bored out of your mind when reading it.

I used two bold colours that really stand out yet also complement each other. I'm a fan of white space and I really embraced it in this design and I think that, teamed with the simplicity of the typography balance quite well with the detailed feature pictures.

Awesome Advertising

Just some interesting images I came across while researching for an advertising assignment.

There's nothing I like better than mixing old with the new!
Unless it's mixing pretty with undignified...
A really effective ad, grabs your attention and affects your emotions.
Playing on a logo for humor and brand recognition is clever.
